4 Things High School Didn't Teach Me!

I was going to make a video concerning this topic but my laptop isn't cooperating with me. Hopefully, I'll get it repaired so that I can do more vlogging instead of blogging, because "ain't nobody be into reading all the time!" So, let's find out what the old jail cell didn't manage to teach me aye!

1. Getting a job isn't going to be as easy as you think.

So, you're "academically qualified". You miraculously managed to score a grade point average of 3.00 & over and you graduated on honors. You've gotten your high school diploma, your resume's looking good, & you have some job, and/or volunteer experience. You'll definitely get the job, right?! Wrong. Despite having all of the qualifications needed to land that cute little office job you've always wanted with the beautiful view of the city, chances are, you still might not get it. The only thing that you will get however, is a soft smile with a simple, "we'll call you". And let's be honest, you and I both know they're not going to call.

2. It's Not Always About What You Know.

If you were one of those brainiac students who sat at the front of the class, knew all the answers to almost every question and grades looked as if they were allergic to the other 25 letters of the alphabet-- because all you've ever gotten were A's--but sucked at basic communication because you "hate people", you'll need to break out of that. At some point, you'll have to learn how to network and form bonds persons because those people are actually connected to people in higher positions that might be able to get you where you need to be. That's not to say you have to become 'bestfriends' with everybody, just with the right people.

3. You'll Start Feeling Worthless.

After leaving high school you basically have two options. You can either enter the work force or start college. I chose work. But here's where the worthlessness comes in. You can't get a job no matter how much effort you put into getting one. What's worst is having to hear your friends talk about their experiences on their jobs. My remedy to combat this feeling is to try to always stay positive & productive. I know it's not always easy but, don't give up in your search, and while waiting, try engaging in volunteer work. That's what helped me!

4. You'll Have to Start Somewhere.

In high school, I had this teacher that spoke poorly about people who worked at fast food franchises. There is nothing wrong with that! You' have to start somewhere. If the businesses you've applied to haven't called you back after months of waiting, lose the pride and start working somewhere that you are sure will hire you. Then, with the money you've made from that job, you can work on advancing yourself and perhaps start your own business. Look at it this way, you need money to get you to the places you want.

High school wasn't all bad for me, however, I only wished it also taught & trained youths to be more like entrepreneurs rather than employees. I guess that's what college is for? I really hoped you enjoyed this mini article. If you did, share it with friends and leave a comment below. Until next time, yours truly, Tye!
